LIGHTFAIR 2013 was all about control. Giving users the ability to manipulate their lighting—brighter, dimmer, warmer, cooler, fuchsia!—is becoming more and more a focus of manufacturers and designers. It’s a trend driven by energy-efficiency goals and LED technology, and whether it was USAI’s BeveLED 2.0 or Bold Play by Philips, lighting today is “smarter” than ever. Here’s a round up of some of what we saw at LIGHTFAIR 2013.
Bold Play by Philips. Named the Most Innovative Product of the Year in the LFI Innovation Awards.
Light Sheet by Cooledge. Winner of the LFI Design Excellence Award.
Lumenpulse + Lutron EcoSystem. Not a product, but an integration of Lumenpulse luminaires with Lutron’s control system, making it easier than ever to save energy.
Hue by Philips. Color-changing smart bulbs for the consumer, and an Editor’s Pick in the latest issue of gb&d.
Vela by WAC Lighting. Organic LED (OLED) technology allows for super-thin luminaires.
Glimpse Recessed Indirect Retrofit by Lighting Science. An indirect light with hidden LEDs that is equivalent to a 65-watt halogen lamp.
