With a green building educational track and a product showcase featuring the latest trends, the 2014 International Roofing Expo promises an array of opportunities for sustainable architects, engineers, and developers to learn and connect. The roofing construction and maintenance event will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas from February 26–28.
Hunt for treasure
“New this year, attendees have the opportunity to find new products, meet new exhibitors and have a chance to win $3,500 cash by participating in the Treasure Quest game,” says Tracy Garcia, the show director, who joined the team in September 2013 and is also new to IRE this year. Show attendees can visit participating exhibitors across the show floor to receive a stamp on their map or enter a code on their mobile app. Official rules and game cards will be available at the registration desk.
Garcia also suggests checking out the Product Showcase, which will be located on the show floor in Booth 173. Exhibitors featuring sustainable products will be highlighted with an icon.
Hand-picked by Garcia for gb&d readers, educational sessions of note include:
- Are you ready for an ICE Audit? Thursday, 9:30 a.m.
- Mock Depositions – Preparing for an OSHA Formal Hearing Friday, 7:45 a.m.
- The Environmentally Responsible Building Envelope Friday, 7:45 a.m.
- The 2013 CA Energy Code – Will Higher Reflectance Requirements Cause Condensation? Friday, 9:30 a.m.
Another must-see is the keynote speaker, Frank Abagnale, whose life story was made into the movie Catch Me if You Can. At the end of opening day, there will be a welcome party held at LIGHT Nightclub at Mandalay Bay.
If you’re going to be in Vegas a day early, make sure to participate in IRE’s Community Service Day where conference attendees can put their skills to work renovating and repairing homes for unemployed or disabled families in the area. From general contractors to marketers, volunteers of every skill level and discipline are needed and will work under the direction of a crew chief. Financial donations will also be accepted.
A sure bet
“This year’s show will enable industry professionals to discover the hottest products and services, learn about the latest trends, and network with the most influential players in the roofing industry,” Garcia says. “Our registration and exhibitor numbers are tracking ahead of last year, so it should be a fabulous show.”
