Aquafil USA, makers of ECONYL® regenerated nylon, announced today that the company will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the innovative, sustainable material during NeoCon in Chicago, which takes place October 4–6, 2021.
Nylon waste that would otherwise pollute the Earth, including fishing nets and old carpet, is transformed into ECONYL® regenerated nylon, boasting the same qualities as fossil fuels-based nylon. However, unlike traditional nylon, ECONYL® can be recycled, recreated, and remoulded again and again.
ECONYL® regenerated nylon was launched by Aquafil in 2011 after four years of research and development, which started in 2007. Today ECONYL® is specified by more than 2,000 brands in the fashion industry from Gucci and Prada to Adidas and Speedo and in the interiors world by Interface, Delos, Tarkett, BMW, and Mercedes Benz.
ECONYL® regenerated nylon is an important solution for the planet as for every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® raw material, 70,000 barrels of crude oil are saved, and 65,100 tonnes of CO2 eq. emissions are avoided.
Aquafil will be announcing a new modern line of rugs made with 100% ECONYL® yarn in partnership with Delos during the conference as well as highlighting its new online store for conscious consumers. The online store currently features clothing and accessories made with ECONYL® yarn and is expanding its line to include interior products in the future.
“We are excited to feature the latest designs made with ECONYL® at NeoCon in Chicago this year,” said Giulio Bonazzi, chairman and chief executive officer of Aquafil Group. “We’re so proud that we have been able to move the industry toward more sustainable practices over the last decade, while continuing to work with our partners to make beautiful products.”
Choosing sustainable practices and materials to create beautiful spaces is one of the most pivotal and impactful design challenges of our time.
