Bona US, a global, sustainably driven company that supplies products for installing, renovating, maintaining, and restoring premium floors, received approval from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) to offer a new Continuing Education Unit (CEU) on hardwood floor installation. The CEU, titled, “Commercial Flooring Installation: Fastening for the Future,” offers insight for architects and interior designers on the latest adhesive technology, installation techniques, and products. AIA and IDCEC have both designated the course category as Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW).

The new CEU will be presented in two upcoming webinars on April 14 and 15 at 11:00 a.m. PDT. Registration is open on Bona’s website at bona.com/architectsanddesigners.

“When specifying a hardwood floor it’s critical to understand how adhesives interact with the various substrates that wood floors are installed over, not only for the aesthetic and longevity of the floor but also for the health and wellness of the installers and building residents,” said Dave Darche, national market manager of adhesives/A&D at Bona. “Often the focus for hardwood floor installation is color or sheen, which is important, but just as much attention needs to be spent on the correct products and systems that serve as the foundation for any successful flooring installation.”

This new CEU is a compliment to Bona’s existing CEU titled “Hardwood Floor Finishing,” which is a comprehensive overview of trends, techniques, and best practice for designing and specifying hardwood floors. “Commercial Flooring Installation: Fastening for the Future” is a deeper dive into some of the more technical details of floor installation.

“In our industry, ongoing education is critical to ensure that we are leveraging the latest innovations in building materials,” said Trisha Isabey, Owner and Interior Designer, Isabey Interiors, Inc. “We have trusted Bona for years as the go-to experts on anything related to hardwood floors. From fastening to finishing Bona has a deep bench of experts that can help us be sure to specify the right product for the job.”

The new CEU “Commercial Flooring Installation: Fastening for the Future” covers a range of topics, including:

  • The benefits of specifying wood flooring adhesives for longevity and positive human health
  • The process involved with subfloor preparation and its critical role for long term performance
  • The differences between traditional installation methods and healthier, environmentally responsible products and systems
  • The effect and impact adhesives have on sound, indoor air quality and the environment

“The relationship between proper substrate preparation and appropriate adhesive application is not only a key consideration for the longevity of the floor but also for the sustainability of the building,” continued Darche. “Today’s products and systems are much more environmentally friendly and can contribute to LEED certification points.”
