Story at a glance:

  • Green fencing can quickly and easily connect people back to nature no matter where they are.
  • Greenscreen offers a range of green facade solutions with easy installation and customization capability.
  • Green facade solutions like overhead vines, infill, and clever columns help to bring biophilic design to urban areas.

From beautification to battling air pollution, green infrastructure solutions have many benefits. You can develop urban green spaces to improve air quality, cool areas, and improve otherwise drab areas with solutions like green walls, green fencing, and more.

Greenscreen, a leader in green facade solutions since 1993, creates three-dimensional solutions like these using metal, plants, and wire in innovative ways.

Here are seven green facade solutions to incorporate biophilic design outside your next project.

Green Wall

The Greenscreen trellis system can transform walls into beautifully textured and vine-covered surfaces that change with the seasons. Also known as green facades, the Greenscreen system of engineered mounting accessories is designed to hold Greenscreen trellis panels off the building surface, protecting the building’s waterproof membrane from direct plant attachment and transferring the weight of the plants to the screen structure and the wall. Panels can be stacked side to side or top to bottom to cover larger areas.

The Duwamish Valley Greenscreen green wall mitigates air pollution, is aesthetically pleasing, and thrives using locally viable vines. It’s also an example of support for a variety of plants and habitat for birds and insects.

Fencing

Greenscreen panels have a three-inch depth that capture plant material, acting as a living fence that can be enjoyed from both sides. The panels are durable but light in weight, and the engineered mounting accessories match the panel finish. They easily adapt to posts for simple fence installations or to more complex frameworks.

Infill/Overhead

Vegetated Greenscreen trellis panels can be efficiently supported using a steel structure to passively create shade, provide privacy, and mitigate views according to the leaf canopy of the plant selected, according to Greenscreen.

Infill panels like these can be tapered, notched, mitered, or curved to precise needs using standard attachments or outside customized solutions on larger structures when needed.

Column

You can also easily create column shapes with Greenscreen trellis panels. The company’s standard offering column trellis is fabricated from a 48-inch-wide panel to give a 15-and-a-half-inch diameter column as a basic building element.

Greenscreen can provide mounting clips or brackets for attaching to any structure, and design teams can choose from their standard radius of up to 14 feet in height. Or, select a custom radius or square column shape that Greenscreen can build for you.

The columns can be stacked for taller installations. The standard column trellis can also be mounted on a fiberglass planter for applications that require self-contained units.

gsTree

The gsTree combines the form of a natural tree with the flexibility and utility of the Greenscreen wire trellis system for captivating design and vegetation in any landscape.

The gsTree provides dappled shade with welcoming vines that wrap around the well engineered structure of steel post, column trellis, and overhead panels.

When integrated with seating, lighting, and wayfinding, the gsTree makes for a compelling landscape component—creating a link to nature in urban spaces and providing benefits like air pollution mitigation, a habitat for pollinators, and a palette for horticultural and aesthetic diversity.

Custom

Greenscreen panels can also be customized to meet virtually any project requirement based on a two-inch-by-two-inch modular grid. The rigid, lightweight, three-dimensional welded wire panel can be cut at angles, span openings, attach to support frames, or be mitered, notched, spliced, or curved. Combine it with standard or custom edge trims and a full array of engineered mounting hardware for limitless applications.
