On June 9, HEAPY announced that all five of its company offices have earned the WELL Health-Safety Rating through the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI).

“HEAPY specializes in sustainable and resilient engineering design, so achieving the WELL Health-Safety Rating is a natural progression and demonstrates our commitment to taking care of our colleagues and ensuring their health and wellbeing,” said Mark Brumfield, CEO of HEAPY.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified program that helps building owners and operators develop operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement, and emergency plans to support the health and safety of occupants in response to acute health threats now and into the future.

“Congratulations to HEAPY for taking the necessary steps to prioritize the health and safety of their employees, visitors and stakeholders. From cleaning and sanitization to emergency preparedness and air and water quality management, HEAPY is helping to advance people first places as they return to the office,” said Jessica Cooper, Chief Commercial Officer at IWBI.

To achieve WELL Health-Safety Rating, HEAPY implemented features such as creating a business continuity plan, assessing ventilation and reducing respiratory particle exposure (air quality), and selecting preferred cleaning products (non-toxic/harmful).

“In the past decade, we have seen a trend towards incorporating health and wellness into building design and renovation, and the pandemic only accelerated that trend,” Brumfield said. “We are thrilled to be one of the first companies in Ohio to join this growing worldwide phenomenon and achieve this distinguished rating. With this first-hand experience, we look forward to helping our clients use this certification process to prioritize health and wellness as an integral part of the design and operation of their facilities.”

The International WELL Building Institute developed the WELL Health-Safety Rating leveraging a task force of nearly 600 public health experts, virologists, government officials, academics, business leaders, architects, designers, and real estate professionals, and incorporates COVID-19 safety guidelines from the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating provides a centralized source and governing body to validate efforts made by owners and operators. It leverages insights drawn from the IWBI Task Force on COVID-19, in addition to guidance on the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory infections developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), global disease control and prevention centers and emergency management agencies, as well as recognized standard-making associations such as ASTM International and ASHRAE, and leading academic and research institutions, as well as core principles already established by International WELL Building Institute’s WELL Building Standard, the premier framework for advancing health in buildings and spaces of all kinds.
