Unsure of what you’re seeing? Understandable. The visual assault is the result of Nicola Formichetti collaborating with Gage/Clemenceau Architects on a temporary installation/environment that fuses concepts from both fashion and architecture. It lasted for two weeks in September 2011 coinciding with New York’s Fashion Week. The “pop-up store” was accessible to the general public and housed Formichetti’s latest work as well as several original costumes designed for Lady Gaga. This experimental space was not designed to sell clothing so much as to showcase it and was created using hundreds of robotically cut, mirrored facets, mounted to lightweight composite structural backing which hung from the walls and ceiling. The effect was a reflective world that magnified the active role fashion can take in any environment.
