CHRYSO & GCP (Saint-Gobain Construction Chemicals), a worldwide leader in sustainable construction, is pleased to announce that its senior director of technical services for North America, G. Terry Harris Sr., was awarded the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s 2024 Shydlowski – Turner Materials Leadership Award.

Harris began his career in the concrete industry in 1979 and has more than four decades of experience with ready mixed concrete, precast, masonry and admixtures. Twenty-six of those years were with GCP Applied Technologies. With the Saint-Gobain acquisition of GCP, today Terry serves as the senior director technical services and Ductilcrete Slab Systems – North America for CHRYSO & GCP.

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) established the Shydlowski -Turner Materials Leadership Award to honor an individual, who as a materials supplier to the ready mixed concrete industry, exemplifies leadership, commitment and support for the industry and the initiatives and activities of the NRMCA. The award is named in honor of L. Michael Shydlowski and Robert P. Turner, who both served as chairmen of the NRMCA Materials Division.

“For over 40 years, Terry Harris has been the model for any technical services person within the concrete industry,” said NRMCA President Mike Philipps. “His ability to understand and communicate complex (and simple) issues and be a solution-provider to his customers has been the cornerstone for his success. Receiving the Shydlowski – Turner Materials Leadership Award is extra special because of the tremendous respect Bob Turner had for Terry throughout their careers.”

“Terry’s industry commitment shines through daily in his interactions with customers, employees, and fellow committee members,” said Saint-Gobain Construction Chemicals North America President Steve Williams. “Always going the extra mile, Harris prides himself on being the industry’s go-to guy for technical questions, no matter how many times asked; helping a customer with a materials challenge; or providing a hands-on recommendation at a job site. He always finds a way to make himself available to deliver the support and assistance needed.”

CHRYSO & GCP customer, Rick Tilson, technical services manager for Argos USA, a Summit Materials Company, said, “Terry’s approach to technical services gives us a much better understanding of our product and how different variables affect it. Since Terry and his team have trained our teams, we’ve had one technician pass the NRMCA Short Course LV II & III and we are preparing another to go.”

Among other achievements, Harris was selected as the 2024 honoree for his years of participating in NRMCA activities, as well as a longtime active participant in the ACI, ASTM, NPCA, ACPA, the ACI Concrete Innovation Council, and the Concrete Advancement Foundation.

“The wealth of knowledge and training Terry has shared and continues to share with the industry is unparalleled,” said CHRYSO & GCP Sustainability and Customer Engagement Program Manager Lisa Barnard. “He is building and investing in the next generation.”

Harris and all of the 2024 honorees were recognized at the NRMCA 2024 Annual Convention.
