Story at a glance:

  • Autex Acoustics shows it’s all in on LA with a new, branded showroom in the city’s Arts District.
  • The showroom doubles as a workspace, proving product effectiveness in a real-world setting.
  • Events and collaborations align Autex with the community to help support the city’s transformation.

As Los Angeles prepares for major global events like the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Olympics—sparking waves of infrastructure and facility improvements—Autex Acoustics has strategically positioned itself in the city’s evolving landscape. The New Zealand-founded manufacturer, known for its sustainable acoustic products, has opened a 2,300-square-foot showroom in the downtown Arts District, a thriving creative hub that aligns with its own design-driven ethos.

Making a Statement in LA

Autex is building on successful showroom strategies in Australia and the UK and saw Los Angeles as the natural next step for expansion—not just because of the city’s thriving design sector but also because of its own nearby manufacturing facility with nearly a decade-long presence just 50 miles east of the city.

“Having a showroom in America was always part of the plan,” says Phil Goodin, managing director for Autex Acoustics North America. “And LA was always going to be the place where it happened. This is our home.”

Unlike many competitors who rely on third-party representative spaces, Goodin says Autex has taken a different approach by investing in its own dedicated showroom. “We wanted to make a big statement that we’re here and that we’re all-in on LA,” he says.

That commitment comes at a critical time. As the city reckons with the aftermath of recent wildfires and ramps up discussions on rebuilding with more sustainable practices, Autex’s presence near Los Angeles’ top architectural and design firms sets up the showroom to actively support this transformation with real-world inspiration.

More than just a display space, this is a fully functional office environment, showcasing how well acoustic solutions can integrate into modern workplaces.

The thoughtfully organized rectangular space mirrors the attributes of contemporary office design: Two private offices anchor one end, while a kitchen and conference room occupy the opposite side.

At its heart lies an open-plan common area, intentionally designed with challenging acoustic conditions—floor-to-ceiling glass walls on two sides, extensive interior glass partitioning, and exposed concrete surfaces both above and below.

Hands On

This demanding environment serves dual purposes. It functions as a workspace for the firm’s sales and marketing teams but also allows visitors to experience firsthand how Autex products can mitigate real-world challenges. The thinking is simple: If the products work here, they can work anywhere.

In this context Autex’s products are far from an afterthought.

They seamlessly blend into the backdrop, often appearing as sleek textiles or wood-like finishes, enhancing both sound control and design. “You can look at samples and get a sense of the product, but you don’t really understand it until you can see, touch, and experience it at scale, in its glory,” Goodin says.

Leading by Example

The showroom experience also highlights the role acoustic products can play integrating sustainability and wellness principles into everyday spaces.

As the first in the interior acoustics sector to achieve global carbon neutrality, Autex demonstrates its commitment to sustainability across its operations—using up to 80% post-consumer recycled content in product development and implementing life cycle management practices that minimize waste.

A key part of this effort is an innovative system at its Riverside manufacturing facility where a proprietary pelletizer converts manufacturing waste into reusable materials, supporting a circular manufacturing model.

Autex plans to expand this system with a takeback program inspired by a successful initiative in New Zealand, working to recycle and reintegrate its products into the production cycle.

This commitment is replicated in the showroom itself. A timber-printed ceiling treatment, for instance, is carbon neutral and locally made, while wall panels use an adhesive-free mounting system to eliminate drywall damage and waste that’s typical when conventional installations are removed.

But the sustainability efforts here go beyond just materials and processes—Autex takes the broader view, with an eye toward individual well-being.

This is reflected in sound-absorbing solutions that are meant to optimize acoustic comfort and mitigate the productivity loss and stress that often arise from excess noise. Biophilic design elements like the timber-printed acoustic ceiling, living moss walls, and integrated plantings also work to foster a calm, productive atmosphere.

Together these efforts support both environmental sustainability and the health of those who will work in and otherwise use the spaces.

We want to add creativity and value.

In line with this holistic approach, the showroom is also meant to serve another important role—as a collaborative hub and host for the local creative community.

Already committed to hosting installations and studio tours for the Los Angeles Design Festival in June 2025, Autex also has a program of events planned, including upcoming recycled jewelry workshops, clothing swaps, and live music sessions. “We don’t want to just be someone who supplies happy hours. We want to add creativity and value,” Goodin says.

Building on this community-driven approach, Goodin says the showroom stands ready to serve as a resource for designers to incubate ideas and host their own events. “Just ask us, and it’s yours to use,” he says.

By addressing the pressing need for responsible design and demonstrating a long-term commitment to community and collaboration, this new LA showroom works to position Autex not just as a supplier, but as an engaged partner—one deeply invested in the people, ideas, and solutions that will help shape the city during this period of transformation.
