In late January 2025 Skanska USA launched the Supply Chain Sustainability School—an innovative and free online training opportunity for people in the construction industry.

The platform aims to give construction professionals the critical skills they need to deliver sustainable projects and reduce the industry’s up to 38% contribution to global carbon emissions.

Skanska has long shown a commitment to sustainability, and the leading global construction and development firm hopes to further that commitment in the US. Skanska has more than 12 years of experience and a strong reputation in the UK, Ireland, and Australia—training more than 137,000 people so far abroad. Skanska USA is a founding partner in the US initiative.

“Partnering with the Supply Chain Sustainability School was a natural fit, as Skanska aims to make the construction industry more sustainable,” says Myrrh Caplan, senior vice president of sustainability for Skanska USA Building. “This new resource will provide individuals and businesses with essential resources and educational materials to support their understanding of sustainability strategies that can help scale their business while meeting regulations. We are committed to advancing sustainability alongside other school partners, establishing new industry standards and strengthening the skills of our workforce.”

The new US school will provide free learning opportunities, facilitate knowledge sharing, and promote a collaborative approach to addressing critical sustainability challenges— including energy and carbon, sustainability reporting, environmental management, waste and circular economy, biodiversity, community engagement, and supplier diversity.

The free school offers access to hundreds of accredited online sustainability training sessions and e-learning resources. The school is also seeking partnership from companies interested in collaborating with industry peers to help shape the school’s development for the US supply chain.
